Wrap Up: PACHAMAMA RAW CAFE!

The Pachamama Raw Cafe was a great success! A big hug and thank you to all those who came out yesterday to eat and hang out at the Peña Pachamama Cultural Center. The food was extraordinarily good! This week we hope to add our very own raw-organic living kale chips which are becoming one of our most popular foods here! A huge thank you to John Vandenberg & Erica Botz for organizing this wonderful brunch experience.

Due to the popularity and success of the brunch we're going to open brunch for this Saturday and Sunday (February 13th and 14th)! So you can kick-start your Valentine's weekend with a healthy and inspirational meal at the Pachamama Raw Cafe.

Entrees in the pictures above:
Nori Rolls: mixed veggies and jicama-pine nut rice wrapped in a raw nori, served with miso soup (cashew-based, tofu optional).
Tacos: two handmade tacos filled with a sunflower-brazil nut breakfast scramble and served with cabbage slaw.
Other great drinks/dishes: Mango Lassi, Carrot Beet Juice, Young Coconut Water, Mediterranean Plate, Sweet Crepes, Spanish Mushroom Tart, Macarrons, Flan.

Just like the raw living food we serve, the menu will evolve and change too! You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Insider information:
- the world famous group Ancient Future will be performing at the Sunday Brunch on the first Sunday of March!
- for some brunches we'll be serving up small samplings of different raw dish ideas.

This Sunday (February 7, 2010), the Peña Pachamama Cultural Center will be having our very first and on-going Sunday Brunch called PACHAMAMA RAW CAFE. Raw chefs Jon Vandenberg & Erica Botz from Coup de Raw Catering will be serving their raw dishes. The Peña will also be serving our favorite dishes as well (Bolivian Salteñas available upon request). Come join us from 10 AM to 2:30 PM every Sunday for a special brunch experience!

TANGO MONDAY NIGHTS!

So last Monday night (February 1, 2010) was a wonderful Tango evening, with beginners to intermediate step-by-step tango dance classes. Live tango music by trio Garufa swelled up the passionate and sensual dance, wine tasting and Bolivian salteñas got everyone to dance the night away.

Peña Pachamama Cultural Center Profile

Since 1999, Peña Pachamama, has served as a San Francisco based center of Latin American music, food, art and culture (this "peña" or "gathering place" established by SUKAY). As such, Peña Pachamama has provided community members the opportunity to experience musicians, composers, artists and dancers, who celebrate the multiplicity of cultures of the Americas, inside a landmark location in North Beach.

This year (2009), Peña Pachamama has re-emerged as a full-time 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Cultural Center! The Peña Pachamama Cultural Center presents weekly concerts of Flamenco, Cuban, Bolivian, Brazilian, Hawaiian, Carnaval, Tango or contemporary world music. We're looking forward to 2010 as we hope to bring you more cultural events to the City of San Francisco. We plan on holding dance & language classes, music instruction classes, theatrical performances and to continue to educate local SF schools. We can't do this alone! Another translation of Pachamama is “Mother Earth” and as soon as you walk into the place you feel like you’re part of some extended global family. (Peña means “a circle of people coming together.”) On the stage there may be jazz, flamenco, or salsa to spice up your meal, depending on the day of the week, and Saturday nights belong to Sukay. The band has played venues around the world and its musicmaking and showmanship inspire a glow of pleasure. One of the charms of the place is that the restaurant’s staff is also part of the entertainment, so the guy playing the charango is actually Eddy the bartender (and one of Bolivia’s most known composers), the maitre d’ is the Yma Sumac-esque vocalist and panpipe virtuoso, and the pastry chef emerges from the kitchen long enough to demonstrate a particularly athletic indigenous dance step.
